Travel to Vaxholm

Just as easy all year round

Vaxholm is easily accessible all year round by boat or bus. You can also take your own car, but as Vaxholm is an island, and the city center is only a small part of it, the possibility of parking there is limited. Please read our parking tips further down the page.

Boat and bus from Stockholm

Both Waxholmsbolaget's and Strömma's boats operate regularly in Vaxholm. There are also commuter boats through SL. Waxholmsbolaget's boats and SL's commuter boats depart from Strömkajen at Grand Hotell, while Strömma's boats depart from Strandvägen. If you prefer to take the bus, bus 670 leaves from Tekniska högskolan several times an hour. You can find the timetables here:

(Note: Search for travel from Strömkajen to Vaxholm, select boat as travel filter)

Bus 670 from the Technical University

With your own car

You can reach Vaxholm by car, both from the west via the E18 from Stockholm and from the east via Värmdö and the road ferry across Rindö. The road ferries run regularly, often several times an hour. With the help of the the app Tidtabellen you can easily see where the ferry goes.

Parking info

Vaxholm is an island, and the city center is only a small part of it, which limits the possibility of parking there.

If you come to Vaxholm by car, we therefore recommend that you choose a parking space outside the inner city center. There are more parking lots to choose from and you can easily walk down to the center. You can also use the SL bus 670 as a transfer from the parking lot. The bus runs approximately every 15 minutes in the center of Vaxholm.

If you have chosen to take the road via Värmdö/Rindö, we suggest that you park your car in the parking lot before taking the last road ferry from Rindö to Vaxholm. You travel for free on the road ferry over to Vaxholm even without a car.

You can find all parking lots on the city's website. The parking map is continuously updated by the traffic unit at the municipality.

During the summer period from June to August, the number of parking spaces is increased with temporary parking areas. See parking map below.

This is how you pay for your parking.
